Award-winning artist Albert Slark grew up in Calgary, Alberta. He developed a passion for drawing and painting at an early age mostly from reading comics and fantasy Art books. In 1990 he graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) majoring in visual Communications and moved to Toronto. Seeking further instruction in representational art, he studied classical drawing and painting with Michael John Angel, he also studied privately with realist painters in New York, Steven Assael and Max Ginsburg who specialize in portraiture and figurative painting, they work almost exclusively from live models. Continuing to expand his skills Albert attended many workshops at the Art Student’s League N.Y. and continues to study.
Albert has won many awards: He was the recipient of The Best Portrait Award in 2015 for the portrait of Carmen Whalen awarded by the Portrait Society of Canada. Certificate of merit in 2013 for the portrait of Ms. Elora Bates and in 2011 certificate of merit for the portrait of Mr. Ernest Fisher from the Portrait Society of Canada . Albert was awarded a certificate of excellence in portraiture, another prestigious award from the Art Directors Club of Washington. From March 2015-February 2016 the portrait of Marian Anderson was exhibited at the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum Washington DC, and was also exhibited at the Society of Illustrators 48th Annual Exhibition in New York City.
Albert has taught art at Durham College and formed his own classical drawing and painting Atelier. Over the years he has exhibited in many galleries across Toronto, including a group show at Joseph Carrier Gallery, Toronto 2015. His recreational activities include painting from life, he loves to read mostly books on art and technique, philosophy, religion and some fiction, an absolute must. Albert spends time at the gym and enjoys playing the drums (a workout in it’s self) to the music of his favourite Canadian rock band Rush. He can be seen on You Tube. One of three Canadians to be commissioned by the USPS, Albert has painted many commemorative stamps (portraits of celebrities) --
the most famous being that of Marian Anderson, Spencer Tracy, Betty Davis and the latest release of Barbara Jordan, in circulation since September 2011.

American Art Collector magazine 2013. The Toronto Sun, Toronto Star and the National Post. Albert has had several TV appearances, CBC, City TV and was proud to be interviewed by Sandy Rinaldo as part of a CTV Canadian success story. Most recently, on Star Portraits Se 2, (A reality TV show) Albert painted the portrait of celebrity Mike Holmes. The painting is now in Mr. Holmes private collection. Press
